Middle, High School Lay Out Refreshed Vision for School Year

It’s back to school for LaRue County’s middle and high school students, and with their return, a renewed sense of optimism and fresh vision.

LCMS Principal Alex Patterson said that a new breakfast routine is helping fuel student success and positive changes this year.

“Student volunteers bring food carts from the cafeteria back to the classroom and this not only creates a more efficient use of time but it’s had the unintended consequence of creating better routines to encourage positive behavior,” Patterson said.

Patterson said being more intentional in celebrating and rewarding students will be a goal for everyone.

“In continuing the theme of increasing positive behavior, our new student of the week program creates a culture of recognizing students for positive behavior and inspiring other students to follow suit,” Patterson said.

Across the street at LaRue County High School, Principal Justin Craft echoed similar initiatives related to school pride.

“I am excited to see the CHAMP project come to fruition which is incredibly close to completion. It brings so many opportunities to many of our student activities and athletics,” Craft said. “This truly feels like the beginning of a new chapter in school and community pride.”

Both Craft and Patterson said community involvement will be important for growth and support of students.

For Patterson, that involvement stems from more frequent and clearer communication internally and externally.

“When we as a staff improve in this area among teams, grades, and the overall building it creates a better environment for learning and student success,” he said. “Externally, we are also working to keep parents informed of student activities with frequent information updates.

Craft said LCHS is continuing to look for partnership opportunities between the high school and the larger LaRue County community.

“We have a lot to be proud of in our small rural town and there are ways we haven’t even discovered yet to bring the wisdom and knowledge of our community stakeholders into enriching the lives of our students as they plan their lives after graduation,” he said.
