Excitement Building at ALES & HES for 2024-25 School Year

With a new school year comes newer school training for administrators. Both Abraham Lincoln Elementary School and Hodgenville Elementary School leadership are implementing newer educational systems that support student growth.

Both ALES Principal Tina Nesbitt & HES Patrick Reed have goals and renewed visions to improve the LaRue County elementary schools this year.

For ALES, Nesbitt and her team are implementing the Ron Clark Academy House System. According to its website, “the Ron Clark Academy House System is a dynamic, exciting, and proven way to create a positive climate and culture for students and staff. Using RCA’s methods will help your school or district confidently implement processes that build character, relationships, and school spirit. Our guidelines are designed to give you a streamlined framework that can be applied to any type of learning environment.”

In addition to the House System, Nesbitt said there’s an increased focus on literacy in the school.

“We’re focusing on literacy through our LETRS training, Science of Reading and UFLI training, " she said. “We are really targeting math fluency as well in all grade levels. The House System will also help us grow as a family.”

The ALES team has visited other schools that have implemented it successfully, as well as visit the academy itself while in another district.

Over at HES, Reed said “we are widening our scope and implementation of the learner profile so that students can apply and demonstrate their competencies of the Learner Profile.”

The district-wide commitment to the Learner Profile aims to help students of all grade levels become more adept at applying what they’re learning in the classroom to life outside of the classroom. From emotional learning to leadership to critical thinking skills, the Learner Profile is an integral part of much of the strategies for all schools within LaRue County.

Reed also said continued professional development is important.

“We have been continuing professional development and application of LETRS training as well as participating in UFLI professional development and utilizing these tools to help with reading fluency,” he said. “We are also working on strengthening our writing skills and idea development and math fundamentals.”
