Lifelong Service To Improving The Community
Building a strong culture is a priority for LaRue County Schools. While there are many contributing factors to building a healthy and thriving climate in the district, one of the most important ingredients is community volunteers. Kathy Ross has been a staple of LaRue County Schools, not only volunteering herself but leading the effort to recruit dozens of additional community volunteers.
At Magnolia Elementary School, she spent decades shaping the minds and work ethics of students. Andrew Coy, a teacher at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, explains that positive impact is still happening today in her capacity as a volunteer, “Kathy works tirelessly to bring out the best in others. She sees potential in others they might not yet see in themselves. I can personally attest to Kathy’s dedication to her community. She has encouraged me in my journey as an educator and now as the academic team coach. Kathy is someone you want in your corner because she’ll do whatever it takes to cheer you on along the way.”
Ross, while being a vital part of the day-to-day life at ALES, works quietly below the radar. Two of her most impactful volunteer projects have been building and sustaining the LaRue County Reads program, recruiting volunteers from the county to read with children on a weekly basis, and coaching the ALES Academic Team, now in an assistant role after passing the baton to Coy.
“Mrs. Ross is the type of person you want in your building as a teacher,” explains Adryanne Warren, Superintendent of LaRue County Schools. “I have had the opportunity to see all the work Mrs. Ross does behind the scenes from my time as a teacher, curriculum specialist, and now as superintendent. Her level of dedication is incredible. She has a true calling and gift in caring for children in their educational journey.”
LCS has a long history of dedicated and long-time volunteers. While Ross spends her time shining the spotlight on the work of others, her love and dedication to this community shine brightly as an example and challenge to others to join in the mission of making LaRue County a wonderful place to live.
