LCS Launches SOAR Virtual Learning Academy
LaRue County students will soon have a new option for their education.
Beginning in August of the 2025-2026 school year, LaRue County School District is rolling out SOAR Academy, a full-time virtual learning program designed for students who prefer an online education over in-person instruction.
SOAR Academy will provide an alternative for all students who reside in LaRue County including those who are homeschooled, allowing them to enroll as full-time virtual students within the district.
Homeschooling across the state continues to rise. Over 40,000 students across the Bluegrass are homeschooled, making up nearly 6 percent of Kentucky’s K-12 students, according to data from Johns Hopkins.
Additionally, LaRue County Schools will continue to offer part-time virtual opportunities, such as credit recovery and blended learning, for students who primarily attend school in person.
While district leaders emphasize that in-person learning remains the best option for most students, they recognize that unique circumstances may make virtual education a better fit for some families.
To encourage success, students wishing to enroll in SOAR Academy must complete an application process. Those who previously participated in a virtual setting during the 2024-2025 school year will have their attendance, participation, and academic performance evaluated as part of the selection criteria.
LaRue County School District aims to provide a well-rounded, high-quality education for all students, whether in person or online. Families interested in SOAR Academy will need to submit an application prior to the upcoming school year to be considered.
