LCHS Leaders Visit WKU
A group of LCHS student leaders traveled to Western Kentucky University on Friday, Sept. 11, to participate in the 2026 High School Leadership Conference. The daylong event introduced students to college life while encouraging them to think more deeply about the responsibilities and challenges that come with leadership.
The conference began with a keynote address from Terrance Brown, dean of WKU’s Potter College of Arts and Letters. Brown shared personal insights about leadership and offered guidance designed to help students develop their own abilities as leaders in their schools and communities.
Throughout the day, the LCHS students attended several interactive sessions. During “The College Experience,” a panel of current WKU students discussed what it is really like to be a college student. Panelists represented different areas of campus and shared how their leadership experiences have changed since high school. The session gave the visiting students an opportunity to learn about both the academic and personal adjustments involved in moving from high school to college.
Students also participated in a guided tour of WKU’s campus. Led by current university students, the tour allowed the group to explore campus while asking questions in a smaller, more conversational setting. In addition to seeing university facilities, students were able to hear firsthand accounts of daily life at WKU.
Another session, “Ethics in Leadership,” challenged students to consider the difficult choices leaders sometimes face. Through a series of scenarios, participants examined the civil and ethical responsibilities involved in making decisions that affect other people. The discussion encouraged students to consider how strong leadership requires more than simply taking charge—it also demands fairness, careful judgment and a willingness to do what is right.
By combining practical leadership lessons with an inside look at college life, the conference gave the LCHS students an experience they can draw upon as they continue serving in leadership roles.
