Charlotte Miller Named ExCEL Award Finalist at POCS
When Charlotte Miller walks into her classroom at Preschool on College Street each morning, she carries with her years of preparation, experience, and a calling she felt led to follow.
Miller, an ExCEL Award finalist at Preschool on College Street, did not begin her career as a classroom teacher right away. After many years serving as a preschool teacher assistant, working alongside some of LaRue County’s strongest educators, and watching wonderful teachers pour into her own children, she knew the opportunity to lead a classroom was something she could not ignore.
“When preschool moved and became Preschool on College Street, I felt I needed to be obedient to the calling,” Miller shared. “I absolutely love what I do each day with the students and families I serve.”
In her classroom, Miller helps shape the district’s youngest learners — fostering a love for school, nurturing kindness, and creating an environment where children learn to care for one another. She values inclusive education, working with typically developing children alongside students with special needs to ensure every child feels loved, supported, and capable of growth.
She describes being named an ExCEL finalist as deeply humbling and hopes she represents both her preschool and the district well through the honor.
For Principal Karen Ward, Miller’s recognition reflects years of steady excellence.
“Charlotte has been a part of the LaRue County Preschool program for more years than anyone at Preschool on College Street,” Ward said. “She has seen the ebb and flow of educational changes and program structure. She is a quiet leader, always leading by example.”
Ward noted the intentional time Miller devotes to differentiated instruction, meeting each child where they are and helping them grow to their maximum potential. That thoughtful, student-centered approach, she said, represents the gold standard of teaching.
Fellow preschool teacher Dorothy Perkins echoed that sentiment.
“From the very beginning, her heart for teaching has been evident,” Perkins said. “Her students are loved, valued, heard, and embraced as part of her classroom family.”
Through compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to young learners, Charlotte Miller reflects the culture of care and excellence that defines LaRue County Schools. Her work reminds the community that the foundation for lifelong success begins in preschool — with teachers who answer the call to serve.
