Celebrating Public Schools Week

Across the nation last week, communities honored their local schools as part of Public Schools Week. LaRue County Schools participated in the celebration with a strong focus on state-level advocacy, joining the Public Schools Week Drive-In Day in Frankfort, KY.

The Legislative Drive-In Day, coordinated by the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA), provided an opportunity for local school leaders to meet with legislators and discuss key education issues. The day began with visits from Rep Lisa Willner, Rep Tina Bojanowski, Sen Matt Nunn, Rep Scott Lewis, Sen Craig Robinson, Rep Kevin Jackson, Rep Timmy Truett, and Sen Cassie Chambers Armstrong, who shared updates on education-related legislation moving through the state legislature.

The highlight of the event was a proclamation signing and press conference recognizing Public Schools Week across the Commonwealth. Rhonda Caldwell, Executive Director of KASA, hosted the press conference, bringing together legislators, public school administrators, and a student representative—all of whom spoke about the invaluable work local schools do in their communities. Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman concluded the event by presenting a proclamation signed by Governor Andy Beshear, officially designating February 24-28, 2025, as Public Schools Week in Kentucky.

“We’re happy to be here to show our appreciation and advocate for all educators, but especially for our staff at LaRue County Schools. We were honored to have our newly elected Representative Ryan Bivens attend the press conference with us today,” said LaRue County Schools Superintendent Adryanne Warren.

Bivens, who recently began his first term in the Kentucky House of Representatives, joined Warren in a video message to educators in his district. “I am certainly honored to be here to support LaRue County Public Schools, our educators, and our kids. I tell everyone all the time—this is why I do this job. It’s why I wanted to step up to serve. We’re doing this for the kids because they are our future, and that’s what it’s all about. We always have to look ahead—it’s not about what we do for ourselves today, but about the groundwork we lay for them moving forward.”

For the 2,300+ students LaRue County Schools serves each school day, Public Schools Week is a time when—from the halls of the Capitol in Frankfort to the elementary schools of LaRue County—everyone can come together with one heart to celebrate the work of those who dedicate their lives to caring for and educating children.
