Belonging Begins Here
Since opening its doors in the fall of 2020, Preschool on College Street (POCS) has quickly become an important part of LaRue County's early childhood education success. What began with just two classrooms has grown into a thriving program serving dozens of 3- to 5-year-olds each year.
At POCS, the mission is clear: give children the strongest possible foundation before they begin Kindergarten at Hodgenville Elementary School or Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. Teachers and staff provide a nurturing environment where curiosity, creativity, and confidence are encouraged every day.
Karen Ward, Principal at POCS, summed it up best just a year after the preschool opened: “We take our role in these children’s lives very seriously. Allowing them to begin building their wings for the future in a loving and caring environment is the most important part of what we do. If a child knows they are loved and safe, they can grow into whatever their dreams have for them. Personally, it’s my dream that every 3 and 4 year old in our county will attend Preschool On College Street. It’s truly a special place.”
Part of what makes POCS remarkable is its commitment to inclusion. Students of all abilities learn side by side, whether they communicate using an AAC device, sign language, cochlear implants, or need the support of a wheelchair. This inclusive approach not only provides access and opportunity but also teaches all children the value of empathy, respect, and belonging.
Preschool on College Street has become more than a school—it’s a community dedicated to helping LaRue County’s youngest learners spread their wings. With each passing year, its impact continues to grow, preparing students not just for Kindergarten, but for life.
