As a board of education, we were approached by a group of community members who were passionate about continuing to develop the athletic facilities located at the football stadium - specifically they want to raise funds on their own initiative to install turf on the football field.
Because this effort includes school grounds, they approached the board to ask how to go about this project in a way that would be in accordance with state law. The result is a unique public/private partnership spearheaded by members of the community who saw a need and rose to the occasion to raise a significant amount of the funds required.
For this project to advance at their request, we voted on a BG-1 at the July 17, 2023 board meeting which has officially launched the process. In the spirit of the needs this community-led effort addresses, it will be named CHAMP (Community-Hawks Athletic Modernization Partnership).
We look forward to seeing this project come to life as the stadium serves as a meeting place for events hosting the community and school system together for football games, band competitions, soccer matches, track/field. and other student activities.
