An Important Update For LaRue County Families

In Kentucky, late winter to early Spring is a time when ever-changing weather and illness can cause interruptions to learning for students. At LaRue County Schools, Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) is an important tool for ensuring learning continues, particularly in the face of unexpected disruptions.

NTI is not just used as a backup plan for snow days, rather it helps to continue learning in the event of health or safety concerns. With a limited number of NTI days available each year, it’s important for families to be aware of the benefits and expectations associated with this mode of learning.

The biggest difference between in-person instruction and NTI is that it allows students to engage in learning from their homes. While traditional classroom instruction may be disrupted by factors like inclement weather or health emergencies, NTI provides the means for remote learning.

It's important to note that NTI days are not simply "days off" for students. Instead, they are a means by which to continue learning through the completion of assigned tasks and activities. By actively participating in NTI assignments it eliminates the need for makeup days later in the school year.

To support students during NTI, teachers are available during regular school hours to provide assistance. Whether it's clarifying instructions, troubleshooting technical issues, or offering academic support, our LC teachers are here to help.

In the event NTI days need to be used from now until the end of the year, it’s important to remember it can equip our students and empower them to thrive in an ever-changing world – building on characteristics found in the LaRue County Learner Profile such as resilient problem solving and becoming a responsible individual. While in-person instruction remains the best way for students to learn, NTI stands as a solid plan to continue student learning should it need to be called upon.
