The LaRue County Child Nutrition Program operates 4 cafeterias, with a total staff of 22 and an annual total operating budget of $2.1 million. The Child Nutrition Program is self-sustaining in that all food, milk, produce, equipment, repairs and all staff wages are paid from the Child Nutrition budget without dipping into the General Fund budget.
Average lunch participation for the district is 80%, with a district Free and Reduced percentage of 56%. This includes both direct certified food stamp and income eligible student applications.
Each year the LaRue County Child Nutrition program undergoes an annual financial audit as well as a Kentucky Department of Agriculture audit of the commodity program. The Kentucky Department of Education, Division of School and Community Nutrition, conducts a district program audit on a five year rotation.
In October 2008 both Abraham Lincoln Elementary and Hodgenville Elementary received the prestigious Healthier US Gold Award for providing high quality food, nutrition education and physical activity opportunities for its students.
